Orchids need FERTILIZERS??? (yes)Learn about the right ferts for your ornamental plantsThe Main Ferts You Should Know About: NPK:(roots, shoots, and fruits!)  - Nitrogen: Use sparingly, and not during budding / flowering (promotes roots)   - Phosphorus: Use regularly at 1/4 strength for orchids (promotes shoots)   - Potassium: Use regularly at 1/4 strength for orchids (promotes fruits) Cal-Mag:Necessary for healthy shoots in seedlings and growth phasesAmino Calcium:SUPERBOOST for seedlings and growth phasesSeaweed / Kelp Ferts:great addition for a once-month growth boosterWhat Ferts Does Florida Hanging Gardens Recommend? We recommend the regular usage of a 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 NPK fertilizer, at one quarter strength, with application of cal-mag and/or amino-calcium monthly, and add in those kelp and seaweed (or Superthrive) ferts once a month also if you have them. Michigan State University (MSU) fertilizer is also great, at 1/4 strength regularly. Young seedlings use a lot of calcium in particular for new shoots so you can give a boost to your seedlings with amino-calcium which can penetrate directly through leaf and stem tissue, not just the roots. Calcium is also essential to help prevent crown-rot in high-humidity environments. On way that big greenhouses bloom their plants all right on time for big orchid shows is to COMPLETELY STOP fertilizing for a good 8-10 weeks before the show. It's important to understand the natural blooming cycle of your orchid, but in general you will be fertiling when you see growth, and cut fertilizing when the plants are ready to go into bloom naturally, no fertilizer during winter "rest" periods for many species. For cacti, vines, succulents, you can generally follow the same regimen but with full-strength (instead of quarter-strength) fertilizers. Cacti like to be watered in the morning before the sun comes up and they don't like to have cold "wet feet" when the sun goes down in the evening. For vines, they will just eat all your ferts and take over your whole house if you let them. We usually have at least some amino-calcium in stock for sale, and also check out these affiliate links for great deals!
